The Trellix Anti-Malware Scan Engine is the core component at the heart of the Trellix Endpoint and Gateway products. Using patented technology, the Engine analyzes potentially malicious code to detect and block trojans, viruses, worms, adware, spyware, and other threats.
This notice announces the initial availability of a new maintenance update to the current Scan Engine 6600 and Command Line Scanner (CLS) 7.0.3. It sets out important information about the download options and release plan for this update. Please note how this will affect the products in use in your environment.
New Features in Scan Engine 6700:
- Normalization support for PowerShell scripts
- Increased coverage of MIME samples
- Performance improvement of internal API and vulnerability fixes
- Multiple bug fixes and minor feature enhancements
The new CLS 7.0.4 integrates the new Trellix Anti-Malware Engine 6700.
Release Schedule for Scan Engine 6700 and CLS 7.0.4:
- Scan Engine 6700 (Elective Download) General Availability (GA) for corporate products – January 9, 2024
- GA (Elective download) for Endpoint Security for Windows (ENSW) – January 9, 2024
- Scan Engine 6700 (Managed throttle update) for ENSW – February 5 to 14, 2024
- Scan Engine 6700 (Auto-Update) for corporate products (except ENS) – February 14, 2024
NOTES:
- Engine 6700 releases are for Windows, Mac, and Linux only.
- The timelines mentioned above are estimates and are subject to change.
Release Availability for Scan Engine 6700 and CLS 7.0.4:
- For ENSW installations:
- The new Engine 6700 will be available for elective download from the 'commonupdater3' download channel from January 9, 2024 (for more information, see KB92669 - About the 6700 Anti-Malware Scan Engine update for Endpoint Security).
- Engine 6700 will be delivered through a managed throttled automatic update expected to start from February 5, 2024 and end on February 14, 2024. This automatic update is for all ENSW installations that receive updates via V3 daily DAT updates, with no further action required.
- For VirusScan Enterprise installations, non-Windows platforms, and OEM customers (except for Endpoint Security for Mac):
- The new Engine 6700 will be available from the Security Updates page and SDK as an elective (optional) update from January 9, 2024. Engine 6600 packages will no longer be available through the Security Updates page and upgrade to this new Engine is recommended.
- Engine 6600 will reach End of Life after six months of this release.
- CLS 7.0.4 (with Engine 6700) is available from the Trellix Product Downloads webpage using a valid grant number.
