The Trellix Anti-Malware Scan Engine is the core component at the heart of the Trellix Endpoint and Gateway products. Using patented technology, the Engine analyzes potentially malicious code to detect and block Trojans, viruses, worms, adware, spyware, and other threats.
This notice announces the availability of a new maintenance update to the current Scan Engine 6710. It sets out important information about the download options and release plan for this update. Please note how this will affect the products in use in your environment.
This release includes features and enhancements, including:
- Decomposition support for the Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) file type
- Repair enhancements for infected Excel spreadsheet
- Quality improvements and malware threat enhancements

Note: Engine 6720 releases are for Windows, Mac, and Linux only. Engine 6720 will NOT be released for other supported platforms. However, in the future annual Engine release, all platforms will be covered.

For ENS for Windows installations:
The new Engine 6720 will be available as an elective download from the commonupdater3 download channel from December 13, 2024 onward.
Engine 6720 will be delivered through a managed throttled automatic update expected to start on December 9, 2024 and end on December 13, 2024. This automatic update is for all ENS for Windows installations that receive updates via V3 daily DAT updates, with no further action required.

For non-Windows platforms (Mac and Linux):
The new Engine 6720 will be available from the Security Updates page and SDK as an elective (optional) update from December 13, 2024 onward.
Engine 6700 packages will continue to be available through the Security Updates page, although the upgrade to this new Engine is recommended.
- Support for Engine 6710 ends after this release, while support for Engine 6700 will continue.
